SD Memory Card Formatter 5.0.1 for SD/SDHC/SDXC

The SD Memory Card Formatter formats SD Memory Card, SDHC Memory Card and SDXC Memory Card (respectively SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards) complying with the SD File System Specification created by the SD Association (SDA).

It is strongly recommended to use the SD Memory Card Formatter to format SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards rather than using formatting tools provided with individual operating systems. In general, formatting tools provided with operating systems can format various storage media including SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards, but it may not be optimized for SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards and it may result in lower performance.

The official Samsung Odin is available for only Windows OS, and there is no official version of Odin for macOS and Odin for Linux systems. To fill in this gap, XDA member AdamOutler developed a Java-based tool named JOdin. JOdin3 is platform-independent and can run on Windows, Mac OS, Linux platforms.

What is JOdin?

JOdin is a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) based tool for flashing Samsung stock firmware, recovery, root packages, other files onto Samsung mobile devices.

JOdin3 is also referred to as Odin for Mac and Odin for Linux systems, and it runs on all three platforms – Windows, macOS, and Linux.

It is a direct port of the official Windows version of Odin and is based on the CASUAL-X project and Heimdall tool.

Why use JOdin3?

Since the official Samsung Odin isn’t available for macOS and Linux machines, JOdin is considered as the best alternative for these systems.

The best part about JOdin3 is that it doesn’t require any additional installation, all it needs is a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed on your system, and you can start flashing firmware using JOdin.

JOdin (Odin for Mac) Features

Below are some of the features of the JOdin tool.

  • JOdin3 is based on the CASUAL-X project and Heimdall tool.
  • It automatically obtains the PIT file with a single reboot.
  • The USB drivers are installed automatically on Windows.
  • JOdin for Mac, Linux, and Windows supports .tar and .tar.md5 files to flash on the device.

JOdin Requirements

For JOdin to function appropriately on your computer, you need to fulfill the below-mentioned requirements.

  1. Download and install Java Runtime Environment on your computer.
  2. Download and install Heimdall on your computer.
  3. Uninstall Samsung Kies, Smart Sync, and Samsung Smart Switch from your computer as they may interfere with the Samsung JOdin tool.
